Denim for Boutiques: The Essential Staple Your Customers Will Love
Denim is an essential for any modern wardrobe collection. But not all denim is the same nor can you expect customers to accept a one-size-fits-all strategy when stocking wholesale women’s jeans in your boutique store.
Women, in particular, value variety, selection, and, above all, denim that is fit for purpose, whatever that might be.
This means that you will need to stock a variety of styles, cuts, and levels of quality. Here, we are going to give you an outline of your boutique’s inventory strategy, which is concerned with wholesale women’s jeans.
As Always - Know Your Customer
Does your client base often shop for staples? Or are they more inclined towards cutting-edge brands, edgy colors, strange cuts, or even obscure fabrics? Depending on where your customers tend to be on the scale between absolute staple and avant-garde selvage, your inventory will need to reflect this.
Beyond styling, however, customers who purchase denim as a staple expect longevity and are willing to sacrifice a bit in the areas of cutting-edge style and trends in exchange for durability and quality fabric. More trend-conscious consumers, on the other hand, are willing to take risks and expect their denim to evidence current trends in construction, materials, colors, and beyond.
Denim for Fashion or Daily Wear
Moving down the decision tree from above, we have denim for purpose. Do your customer prefer an everyday look and does your inventory reflect that? If so, you will want to tend towards well-known brands that fulfill customer expectations in that area. For fashion, however, you want to consider your customer base even further. Denim for fashion can be either very high quality yet somewhat common styling or it can be something that challenges our concept of denim such as pretorn jeans.
Notice there isn’t a lot of overlap between what the customer is looking for in the above. If your clients prefer denim for daily wear, the pretorn jeans inventory won’t make sense. Further, if your customers prefer jeans for daily wear and they tend to like higher-end items, common consumer staples probably won’t work. Again, you need to know your customers and what they expect from your boutique’s denim selection.
Brands
When selecting wholesale women’s denim, you need to keep the importance of brand in mind. Specifically, whether you want brands that sell themselves or you want to try for more niche houses. The benefit of the first is that these brands are known to the consumer so your store has to do little in the way of educating them about its benefits. The con to this approach is that your boutique might be as exciting as those that feature trending, obscure, or niche brands. For the latter, the pro is what we just mentioned: You are offering your clients the latest, greatest, most exclusive products.
The downside to this approach is that you might have to go a little further to educate the consumer on the brand and its features or benefits. In this way, both you and your customers take a risk on the brand and, if it doesn’t work out, you could face higher rates of dissatisfaction.
